Canggu has grown considerably over the years. Previously known for being a top notch surfing spot, with rice fields flanking the villages and hostels, it has now become a hub of organic eateries, trendy cafes, upscale restaurants, bustling bars and chic beach clubs with epic sunset vibes.
Canggu spreads from the outskirts of Umalas, to Tanah Lot and is split into several different areas.
Batu Bolong is known for its epic ‘waves’ and has had surfers flocking to its beaches for years. Now Batu Bolong is known for a lot more than just surfing. With a selection of beach bars and clubs.
Sand Bar
‘Sand Bar’, directly next to the main beach entrance has relaxed vibes and often sunset bands drawing crowds directly on the beach. ‘Old Man’s’ and ‘The Lawn’ showcase big name performers and DJs. The Lawn has its own infinity pool and affiliated fine dining at ‘Skool Kitchen’. Heading away from the beach is Black Sands Brewery with its artisan beers and live music, sports bars like the ‘Bench’, and healthy eateries such as ‘Motion Fitness Cafe’, ‘Beach Garden’ and plant based eateries like ‘Oma Jamu’ can be found in between the home stays and villas. With ‘pop up markets’ and boutique shops lining the road there is never a shortage of something to eat, drink, see or explore!
Echo Beach
Next to Batu Bolong is Echo Beach. Another popular surf spot that has developed over the years. The black sand beach and seascape offers dramatic sunsets, and the wealth of beach side cafes, and warungs take full advantage of the incredible scenery. With Como Beach club, and La Brisa bringing the more upmarket cocktails, and sunset music vibes. Most of Echo Beach has a relaxed Bohemian feel. Whether you want to chill on a bean bag with a coconut, or enjoy cocktails and a meal it has lots of beach front locations to cater for all. Heading back from the beach, popular coffee shops, and breakfast restaurants like ‘Copenhagen’ , ‘Green Spot Cafe’ and ‘The Naked Bun’ can be found.
Pererenan Beach
Pererenan is on the other side of Echo Beach and closest to Tanah Lot and Seseh area. A more undeveloped and picturesque area of Canggu. Pererenan, is fast developing a reputation as the place to stay, with trendy cafes and upscale restaurants nestled in amongst the lush green rice fields. If you take a stroll on the black sandy beach at sunset, stop at one of the simple beach huts selling ice cold beer and soft drinks, or grab some local food from the food carts selling grilled corn, Bakso, Bao and other delicious snacks.
