Getting to Bali

journey to bali

Bali lies about 2.5 hours flight away from Singapore, 3 hours from Perth, and just over 90 minutes from Jakarta.

The capital of Bali is Denpasar, and there are many flights to Denpasar (DPS) from all over the world, including direct flights from:

  • Australia with Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin
  • New Zealand with Air New Zealand
  • China with Hainan, China Eastern and China Southern
  • Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airways and Dragonair
  • Qatar with Qatar Airways
  • Philippines with Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific
  • Japan with Garuda
  • Malaysia with AirAsia and Malaysian Airlines
  • South Korea with Korean Air and Garuda
  • Taiwan with China Airlines and EVA Air
  • Thailand with AirAsia and Thai Airways
  • Papua New Guinea with Air Niugini

In addition, the Indonesian national carrier Garuda flies direct to a number of destinations all around Asia (and worldwide through Jakarta), and there are a number of local Indonesian carriers such as Sriwijaya Air, Wings, Lion Air, Citilink and Interlink that fly to destinations around Indonesia, and also to close by locations such as Singapore and Dili in East Timor.

Denpasar is well served by budget airlines, particularly AirAsia and Jetstar that both fly direct to Bali from a number of Asian and Australian cities.

Alternatively there are fast and slow ferries from Padang Bai and Benoa to Lombok (Gili Islands and Sengiggi) and also a regular car ferry that connects Bali to Java at Gilimanuk and goes every 20 minutes, 24 hours/day and takes about an hour.

GETTING FROM THE AIRPORT TO OUR VILLAS

Airport Ngurah Rai International Bali
I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport Bali

For many of our villas you don’t need a car or even a taxi, particularly as any tours and activities will pick you up directly from your villa, and then drop you back again, and in some cases restaurants will offer a free transfer as well if you are eating at them.

In the more commercial areas, such as Canggu, Seminyak, and Jimbaran taxis are frequent.

Applications like ‘Gojek and Grab’ (similar to Uber) have become very handy for when you are out and about to book taxis and also have monitored costs making it easy to make sure that you are getting a fair price and a reputable driver. In the more remote areas our villa managers have extensive local knowledge and contacts of reliable local taxis and transportation and can organize these on your behalf.

All of our villas are fully staffed and as such have villas managers and concierge services to assist you with transportation or anything else you may need in your stay.

Alternatively having your own car and driver/guide gives you more flexibility, and is particularly worth considering at villas where walking is not an option (such as Villa Champa, Villa Wiljoba, and Villa Krtajna).  If you would prefer to have a car and driver on standby for the duration of your stay, please let us know as we are happy to organize this for you in advance of your trip, alternatively the manager at your villa can arrange this once you arrive.

Getting Around Bali

For many of our villas (particularly Villa Istana Semer, Villa Krtajna, Villa Laguna and Villa Wiljoba near Seminyak and Villa Talia Vashti and Villa Anjani near Candidasa) you don’t need a car or even a taxi, particularly as any tours and activities will pick you up directly from your villa, and then drop you back again, and in some cases restaurants will do the same as well if you are eating at them.

Taxis in Bali are frequent in the Jimbaran / Seminyak areas, and are able to be called in advance and pick you up normally within a few minutes, and are a good way of getting around for short distances.

Our villa managers can arrange this for you (we recommend Bluebird Taxis which are the most professional taxi company in our view, and always use their meter).

However having your own car and driver/guide gives you more flexibility, and is particularly worth considering at villas where walking is not an option (such as Villa Leana, Villa Amanie and Villa Champa).  Again we can organise this for you in advance of your trip, or the manager at your villa can arrange this once you arrive.

Also Grab (the equivalent of Uber) is now active in Bali, although not yet in East Bali (where Villa Anjani and Villa Talia Vashti are) and can sometimes be difficult in other areas, including Ubud, and parts of Canggu and Seminyak (including the roads where Villa Wiljoba and Villa Krtajna are located) due to objections by local taxi companies.
